Lack of Use of Software Applications by the Small & Medium Organizations

The importance of computerization in all the fields of work can never be stressed too much. The computerized technologies took a lot of time to reach our country and many administrative and business operations are still carried out manually. Even the most basic operations aren’t computerized. This trend is a huge speed-breaker in the path of development for India.
Since the small and medium enterprises are not utilizing technology in their work, most of the consumers are also left unaware about it. At least the basic, everyday operations that are not complex, but take up a lot of time, need to be computerized.
If retail shop owners start using Point of Sale, it will be a revolutionary change for the small retail industry. But, people are afraid for no real reason. The reasons for this are the lack of awareness, and the absence of the basic urge to contribute to the growth of the country. If technology successfully enters all the areas of business, our nation will automatically benefit to a large extent.
Every organization should at least utilize an accounting software, a small Human Resource Management System (HRMS) software and a small Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Software. The accounting software will make it way easier to manage all accounts functions such as invoices, transactions, etc.; HRMS will help the businesses in managing their human resources efficiently and keep track of employees’ performances; and the CRM will provide a better way to manage interactions with clients and give them the best customer experiences. All of these combined, are sure to take your business to the next level and computerization will no longer be underrated in the country. However, because of lack of knowledge and interest, most of the Indian organizations are not aligned to use them.
Nowadays, businesses do not have to worry about the price of the software. Every application is available over cloud and the cost of SAS/Cloud access is far below what you would expect. Only 30% of the small and medium businesses use the cloud technology, while 10% don’t even know about it. Earlier, it would have been wishful to be thinking about getting software at the rates that it is available today. But today, organizations can avail a fully featured CRM with Mobile access at just ₹500 per month. In spite of such easy access and availability, use of technology and software is not as prevalent as it should be.
Let’s look at an example. If a small or medium software company doesn’t have a CRM software that is integrated with a Sales application, sending a quotation takes 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the requirement. On the other hand, having a such software would help in completing the same process in maximum 5 minutes. It will increase the business performance by 40% at least.
In the G20 Summit on digital economy and artificial intelligence that was help in June 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented his 5-I vision. His aim was to expand digital technology for social benefit.
In a tweet, Raveesh Kumar, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson wrote, Shaping the agenda. PM @narendramodi presented his vision of maximising digital technology for society benefit in his intervention at the G20 on Digital Economy & AI. The 5 'I's are -- Inclusiveness, Indigenisation, Innovation, Investment in infrastructure & International cooperation.”
It is high time that each and every business starts working with technology and helping in driving our nation towards our Prime Minister’s view of the future.
In February 2019, it was predicted that this year, new applications will be built through API (Application Program Interface) and microservices. They make applications more scalable and also reduce the time of their deployment. The bigger businesses are using it, but it is equally important and beneficial for small and medium businesses as well.
Cyber and data security is another aspect of technology that keeps getting better and better. Businesses can easily protect classified information today with the help of applications to manage data and prevent it from any potential threats.

It has also been said in the past that companies will be bound to switch from traditional approach of working to a more automated one. With the progress of technology, the work will keep getting tougher and the world will keep getting more competitive. That is what is happening and if businesses want to stay in competition, they should use technology to automate their basic operations at least. This will help them in focussing on the actual business and improving its outcomes.

Hope that this will encourage organizations to adapt digital applications and serve as a boost towards the improvement of businesses and the use of technology in the country.
